Our Story

Covenant Community Presbyterian Church was started in 2001 as a uniting of Covenant Presbyterian Church of Wexford and the Covenant Community church plant in Cranberry Township, a ministry of Westminster PCA in Butler, PA.

Covenant Presbyterian Church was started as home Bible study in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, becoming a particular church on November 23, 1975, at which time the congregation met at the North Hills YMCA with founding pastor Rev. K. Eric Perrin. On January 11, 1977, the current property on Wexford Run Road was purchased and the church building was dedicated on Sunday, June 8, 1980 with Dr. R.C. Sproul preaching. Covenant Presbyterian ministered on the site through 2001.

Covenant Community Church was started as a church plant by the Rev. J. D. Funyak in early 2000, with the oversight and assistance of Westminster PCA in Butler. It met in the Cranberry Cinemas in the Cranberry Mall on Rt 19.

In the spring of 2001, the Lord led these two congregations to join their hearts in worshiping our God as one body of believers. The Rev. J.D. Funyak, pastor of the Covenant Community church plant, was called to lead this new congregation. From the inception of Covenant Community Presbyterian Church as one church family, it has been our desire and we believe our calling to be a blessing to all people in word and deed, extending God’s grace to Marshall Township, Cranberry Township, the greater North Hills, and the Pittsburgh region.

In January of 2011, the Rev. Jonathan A. Price was called as the next Pastor. He previously served as Assistant Pastor at Murrysville Community Church, and brought with him more than 12 years of experience ministering with and to youth, children, and families.

In mid-2011 the Elders of Covenant Community began the process of “re-visioning.” Through months of prayer and discernment, our leadership more clearly defined, in general, what God calls the Church to be, and how we believe he is calling Covenant Community to live that out. At its most foundational level, Covenant Community Church is called together to Worship God, Love One Another, and Serve Our Neighbors.

This vision and mission took on a new and exciting direction in 2014 when the church began to reach out to native Spanish speakers, and began bi-lingual worship services. It is the desire of Covenant Community to be a visible expression of God’s multi-ethnic people; worshiping, loving, and serving together.

By God’s grace we will continue to be a gospel-centered church that exists for the glory of God, to be used by God as an instrument for gospel transformation and reconciliation of individuals, families, communities, and culture.
